I see a big future for business on the World Wide Web, so I need to deal with professionals.

“I'm very serious about my business. I want a mature, full–service professional whom I can trust to build and maintain all aspects of my Internet operations.”

W
hether you are creating a brand new business or expanding your current business with a second store on the World Wide Web—“Virtual Store”—you are embarking on a major business venture.  Whether you have a current store in a shopping center, your own building, or you are working out of your den or garage, you are in the business of selling your products and services.  Locating your business in a “brick and mortar” store or on the World Wide Web in a “virtual” store,  requires serious consideration, planning, professional support, and promotion.

Because the concept of a one–dimensional (computer screen) rather than a three–dimensional (building) store on the Internet is so new and revolutionary, the general public has had difficulty understanding that a web site is nothing like an ad in a newspaper or magazine. Those of us in the profession have had to do a lot of educating to help people understand that we are actually creating a store which can be “walked through” and which offers all of their products and services for sale “on–line.” But the virtual store on the World Wide Web is opened all the time and accessible to everyone on the planet who has a computer with an Internet connection.

Forward–thinking business owners and CEO's have quickly realized the power of the Internet for sales and Public Relations to connect them to countless people around the globe. Electronic Commerce (E-Commerce) has taken off like a rocket!

Today, if you are not on the Internet, you are going to lose business to those who are—even in your own community. If you own a bookstore, your old customers may feel terrible that they are not supporting you anymore, but it is so much easier to get on the computer when day is done and shop for books while relaxed in robe and slippers. They can purchase books and have them delivered to their front door within two days; often the very next day. They never had to leave the house, race to your store before you closed, fight traffic, or take a chance on getting mugged in the parking lot.  So, if you own a bookstore and you want to keep your loyal customers, open your own Virtual Store and they will still be able to buy from you— and you will be able to fully serve your loyal customers.

The Internet is here to stay—and it is only going to get bigger! You either need to have a web presence or you will go the way of the dinosaur. Nothing holds back progress!

A web site can be ten pages or it can be hundreds of pages with very complicated databases and interactive forms for customers to complete. It can have a state–of–the–art shopping cart or your customers can purchase your products or services by contacting you through a printable order form, e-mail orders, or telephone orders.  Each site is set up based on need and budget and can be expanded as need and budget increase. But, one thing is certain. A web site is a business and it is conducted as would be any business.

As in any business, promotion and marketing of your business, your products, and your services are vital to your success. The idea that you can just throw up a web site and everyone will beat a path to your door is naive, to say the least.  Even in the early days of the Internet, before billions of dollars worth of business were being conducted, most businesses were located by customers in the same traditional way that business is always located—by advertising.  This has not changed with the advent of E–Commerce. You can hardly see a television commercial today without hearing the “dot com” address for their web site. Even the television stations and programs have their own web addresses so they can maintain and grow their close public relations with viewers. E-Commerce brings people together like no other medium in history.
